So I finally decided to purchase a circle cutter after making a few of these :) I got it at Michael's with a 50% off coupon, so it was less than $10. I've been experimenting with it here and there, but am having a hard time getting it to work right (I'm sure it's probably more operator error, lol ;)).
Most of my circles keep coming out something like this:Does anyone have a circle cutter and if so, any tips or ideas on how to make it work better?
I'm gonna assume from the looks of this it is a Martha Stewart cutter? I have one of these as well and I really had to use it a few times before it worked well.....and if I press too hard it comes out raggedy. So I just let it go in a fluid motion and go frontwards and backwards a few times til I am sure it has cut....that seems to work. I have had issues with my Martha corner punch too....it cuts card stock great but paper jams in it...UGH!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have the same cutter.. and sometimes I avoid using it just because I don't want to ruin my pretty paper.. so sorry no tips.. just tears in my papers as well..
ReplyDeleteI have a similar one... and get the same results. Sorry, that's no help! I am forever cutting out circles by hand.
ReplyDeleteI know it is way more than $10, but I would love to see what would come of you and a cricut machine. I have never used the cutter you bought. Keep at it!

ReplyDeleteI have the same cutter and had the same problem, but then I found this video that gives you tips on how to use this cutter better :) Martha Stewart Crafts has a channel on Youtube with tutorials of their products . I hope that works

I've been thinking about buying one of those circle cutters the next time I have a 40% off coupon. I'll be watching your posts to see what kind of resolution you find. So please let us know what happens.

here in Australia any product that is sent from the US gets an immediate 100% markup on it.
ReplyDeleteFor what it seems, $46 is a HECK of a lot to pay for a plastic contraption.
so I bought it overseas for $18 and with the same cost of buying it here I got flowers and an awesome new stamp including post :)
Apparently the trick is to adhere some removable adhesive (like the roller ones) on the back of your printed paper to keep it still.
Also I have seen a lady in a video say it's easier for her to use it in a clockwise and quick motion.
Practice makes perfect! Hopefully I can perfect mine when I get it!
your blog is quite interesting! loved it! :)
ReplyDeleteI like Coluzzle and have had good luck with it. I think that's what it's called. You use a foam thing underneath and a swivel exacto knife with it. FAST.
ReplyDeleteWell no tips on using it right, but one wrong movement on a sleep deprived "had to get the project done" night and I cut my finger really bad trying to pull the tip out to put it away. PLEASE be careful! My finger has healed, but my husband took the cutter away and hid it... Good Luck
ReplyDeleteOh, my love and hate feeling about circle cutters. I purchase a Friskers one that I didn't care for a while back. I was just looking a few months ago at the one you have. I'm glad that I read this before buying it. I also purchased the Martha Stewart corner punch and hate it. It doesn't mess up my papers like the other poster but it don't cut corners correctly. It cuts more off then it should.
ReplyDeleteI know a lot of people who have bought the circle cutters from Creative Memmories and love it. I want to buy those but can't justify the cost right now. I'm looking forward to reading more about your resolution to this. You'll have to let us know what happens.
