Magic Cookie Squares
Magic Cookie Squares- one of my fave cookie bar recipes. Ever. While the ingredients can be a little expensive (chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, walnuts and a whole stick of butter) - it makes a huge 9"x13" pan - which means you can cut them small (1.25"x1.25"-ish) and get a lot of cookie bars - perfect for adding to a tray of Christmas cookies for a neighbor or friend. Or you can be like me and pretty much eat the whole pan... in one day ;) Just kidding. :)
Magic Cookie Squares
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup semisweet chocolate morsels
1 cup butterscotch morsels
1 cup flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts
Heat oven to 350 degrees F (325 degrees for glass dish). Coat 13x9-inch baking pan with no-stick cooking spray.
Combine graham cracker crumbs and butter. Press into bottom of prepared pan. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over crumb mixture. Layer evenly with chocolate chips, coconut and nuts. Press down firmly with a fork.
Bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool. Cut into bars. Store covered at room temperature.

I make almost those exact same bar cookies (and I've been craving them lately) but I order my ingredients slightly differently (the condensed milk goes on top of everything once it's already layered) and I am never able to limit myself to 1 cup of any of the ingredients; I usually just keeping adding the chips, nuts, and coconut until it looks "pretty" to me...it can get very dangerous!!! Someone I met made these with crushed Nilla wafers instead of the graham crackers too.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely delicious!!! And, you can probably keep most (if not all) those ingredients on hand, so it is a good "throw-together" dessert...and kids can do it too!!!
